Quick brief

Use hax when an agent/operator needs a small terminal-native coding agent that can run in a repository, work with local models through llama.cpp or Ollama, use hosted providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Codex, or compatible endpoints, and produce reviewable one-shot or resumed coding sessions from the shell. Invoke this instead of a heavier IDE agent or cloud product flow when the workflow needs low memory overhead, native terminal scrollback, clean stdout in `-p` mode, resumable sessions, provider switching from the REPL, transcript inspection with Ctrl+T, or composition with Unix subprocesses. The boundary is resource-conscious terminal coding operation with hax’s documented CLI modes and provider setup; it is not a generic AI coding-agent directory card, broad CLI framework listing, MCP marketplace entry, or plugin ecosystem listing.

How it works

What this skill actually does

Inputs and prerequisites: hax binary, a project directory, one configured model/provider, and any required provider credential or local model runtime such as llama.cpp or Ollama.

Setup notes: On macOS or Linux with Homebrew, install with `brew install oleksandrchekhovskyi/hax/hax`. On Arch Linux, install the `hax` AUR package. On other Linux systems, download the prebuilt static binary from the latest GitHub release and place `hax` on `PATH`. To build from source, clone `https://github.com/OleksandrChekhovskyi/hax`, install the documented build dependencies, run `make`, then optionally `make install`.

Source and verification boundary: use `https://usehax.dev` and the upstream README/docs as the canonical reference before running the workflow; keep provider login, API keys, local model setup, shell commands, transcript traces, and code changes reviewable against that upstream source.

Framework fit: publish this as Multi-Framework because hax is intentionally provider- and runtime-agnostic across hosted APIs, compatible endpoints, Codex subscription auth, and local model runtimes; the approved workflow is the concrete hax terminal coding operation, not a lazy generic framework bucket.
