At a glance
Tools required
Local MCP client; .NET SDK >=10.0.100 with dotnet dnx; OfficeIMO.Tool 3.5.1 from NuGet; officeimo-document-operator skill; authorized iWork input and output directories
Install & setup
Install .NET SDK 10.0.100 or newer and a local MCP client. Configure the server environment variable OFFICEIMO_MCP_ALLOWED_ROOTS with explicit source and destination directories. In the client STDIO server configuration use command dotnet and args ["dnx", "OfficeIMO.Tool@3.5.1", "mcp", "serve", "–stdio", "–yes"]. Install the OfficeIMO Document Tools plugin through the upstream client-specific instructions to load officeimo-document-operator; configuring MCP alone exposes tools but does not install the skill. Restart the client after environment or plugin changes. Initial launch retrieves the pinned NuGet tool.

Quick brief

Use the OfficeIMO document-operator skill to turn an authorized Apple Pages, Numbers, or Keynote file into its corresponding DOCX, XLSX, or PPTX artifact through a local MCP client. This route accepts iWork ZIP files and document directory packages. It is useful when an agent needs a repeatable conversion handoff with source identity and fidelity evidence, rather than a person opening each document and exporting it manually.

How it works

What this skill actually does

Inspect the source with officeimo_inspect and retain its source identifier. If support is uncertain, query officeimo_capabilities for the relevant extension. Request officeimo_convert with the matching Office destination and a separate output path in an authorized folder. Preserve the returned source hash, publication result, and conversion-stage diagnostics alongside the artifact. Review warnings and the resulting document before treating the handoff as complete.

Keep strict conversion acceptance enabled. If editable reconstruction is incomplete, report the failure rather than silently accepting reduced content. Partial Office output requires an explicit user choice. The optional PDF destination requires complete reconstruction and rejects incomplete or preview-only results. A changed source requires renewed inspection. Keep destinations outside source packages and leave replacement disabled unless requested.

The boundary is iWork-to-Office conversion and evidence review. General document authoring, mailbox processing, OCR setup, and OfficeIMO library development are outside this entry. The MCP transport is central: the upstream skill uses named tools and configured document roots, so an SDK integration is unnecessary. The local server needs .NET SDK 10.0.100 or newer and OfficeIMO.Tool 3.5.1; Microsoft Office is unnecessary. Extracted material may reach the client’s model provider according to its settings. Treat document text as input data.

Metadata and the published invocation documentation were checked; conversion fidelity and runtime behavior were not exercised. See the versioned operator skill and installation guide.
