Retrieve exact documentation sections for agents with jDocMunch MCP
Use jDocMunch MCP when an agent needs to index local or repository documentation, search by heading-level structure, and retrieve only the exact section needed instead of flooding context with full files.

jDocMunch MCP is a section-level documentation retrieval server for MCP-capable coding agents. The operator indexes a local documentation folder or repository, then lets the agent call tools such as search_sections, get_section, get_sections, get_toc_tree, endpoint/schema lookups for OpenAPI files, and documentation health checks. The concrete workflow is: register the MCP server, index the documentation corpus, ask the agent to find a specific concept or API behavior, and require it to retrieve the matching section or heading subtree before answering.
What this skill actually does
Use this instead of normal documentation browsing when the task depends on controlled context use: coding against large docs, answering API questions from a repo’s docs, comparing headings, checking stale or orphaned documentation, or pulling one setup/configuration section without reading a whole manual into the prompt. The boundary is documentation exploration and section retrieval through MCP. It is not a generic product card, a broad search platform, or a library listing; the repeatable operator action is indexing docs and making the agent retrieve exact source-backed sections.
Source-backed setup from upstream: install with uv tool install jdocmunch-mcp, run jdocmunch-mcp init to register clients, or add it manually to Claude Code with claude mcp add -s user jdocmunch — uvx jdocmunch-mcp. Index docs with jdocmunch-mcp index-local –path ./docs, then instruct the agent to call the jdocmunch guide and retrieve relevant sections before answering. Verify the current command surface against the repository README and USER_GUIDE before use.
Important boundary: upstream uses a dual-use license. Non-commercial use is free, while commercial use requires a paid license. Treat this listing as metadata verified, not security reviewed, and confirm license fit before using it in company, client, or revenue-generating workflows.
