Overview

Agno (formerly known as Phidata) is an open-source Python runtime for agentic software that combines an agent framework with a production-ready serving layer and monitoring control plane. It is designed for teams that need to deploy multi-agent systems as scalable services with built-in observability.

How It Works

Agno provides three layers: a Framework for building agents, teams, and workflows with memory, knowledge, guardrails, and 100+ integrations; a Runtime that serves agents as stateless, session-scoped FastAPI backends; and a Control Plane (AgentOS) for testing, monitoring, and managing agents in production.

Key Capabilities

Agents support tool calling, structured outputs, reasoning and chain-of-thought, multi-modal inputs and outputs (text, image, audio, video), session-scoped memory with database persistence (SQLite, PostgreSQL), retrieval-augmented generation via vector knowledge bases, and multi-agent team orchestration with route, coordinate, or collaborate modes.

Integration Points

Agno is model-agnostic with native support for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, AWS Bedrock, Ollama, Groq, Together, and more. It supports MCP server integration, 100+ built-in tools, and database-backed storage. Install via pip install agno (or pip install 'agno[os]' for the runtime). The AgentOS UI at os.agno.com provides real-time agent monitoring and chat interfaces.

Technical Details

With 39,000+ GitHub stars and extremely active development (daily commits), Agno is Mozilla Public License 2.0 licensed and available on PyPI. The framework emphasizes going from prototype to production with minimal boilerplate — a complete production agent with streaming, memory, and tracing can be built in approximately 20 lines of Python.
