Volta is a JavaScript toolchain manager that handles installing and switching between versions of Node.js, npm, yarn, and other JavaScript command-line tools. Installation is a one-line operation on macOS and Linux via the official installer script, or through Chocolatey and Scoop on Windows. Volta integrates transparently with existing workflows — it intercepts calls to node, npm, and yarn using lightweight platform-specific shims that resolve the correct version before forwarding the command. The project is open source, actively maintained, and has been adopted by teams at LinkedIn (where it originated), Netlify, and other organizations that need consistent JavaScript tooling across large teams.
